Who is This Man?

John Cage, meet the world.
World, meet John Cage.

Happy to make the introduction.

If you don’t recognize the name, John Cage is one of the most non-traditional and experimental American composers of the twentieth century. His most famous work is titled 4’33”.  See the video below to see a performance of this work.

Many of his music compositions look more like works of art than sheet music.

His philosophy: Music was never meant to be restricted.

Lately, I’ve had John Cage on the brain. If it weren’t for him, I probably would have stayed a Nursing Major.  Funny how things work out.

If I were a musical note, where would I belong on the page?

I’m taking a lesson from John Cage. I just can’t look at things in a straight line. Life never comes to us in an organized, logical way.

What will be, will be.  That’s the best I can do.

How interesting…the third movement is my favorite. At that point I was totally immersed in the silence, closed my eyes and started dreaming. I also like how his compositions could also be directions for slicing a pizza. :D Not a note, but I think I’d be a crescendo…the more I drink the louder I get.
