John Cage, meet the world.
World, meet John Cage.

Happy to make the introduction.

If you don’t recognize the name, John Cage is one of the most non-traditional and experimental American composers of the twentieth century. His most famous work is titled 4’33”.  See the video below to see a performance of this work.

Many of his music compositions look more like works of art than sheet music.

His philosophy: Music was never meant to be restricted.

Lately, I’ve had John Cage on the brain. If it weren’t for him, I probably would have stayed a Nursing Major.  Funny how things work out.

If I were a musical note, where would I belong on the page?

I’m taking a lesson from John Cage. I just can’t look at things in a straight line. Life never comes to us in an organized, logical way.

What will be, will be.  That’s the best I can do.

One Response to Who is This Man?

  1. How interesting…the third movement is my favorite. At that point I was totally immersed in the silence, closed my eyes and started dreaming. I also like how his compositions could also be directions for slicing a pizza. :D Not a note, but I think I’d be a crescendo…the more I drink the louder I get.
